Hi, I tried David Sauvage's above suggestion of selecting xfce session in gdm, but unfortunately, it did not work for me. However, I can confirm that the other workaround, that of replacing "xfce4" with "xfce" in the .dmrc file in my Home folder, worked for me! If you want, you can see my .dmrc file, which I attached, after I made that change.
