  It hibernated automatically because of low battery. When I turned my
  computer back on it booted normally instead of resuming my session.

+ UPDATE: It is likely that my battery runs out before it can completely
+ hibernate because of poor battery life on my laptop and Ubuntu
+ incorrectly estimating how much battery I have left.
