another funny message from update-manager (1:0.93.34) on another
intrepid installation:
$ update-manager -d
current dist not found in meta-release file
in ~/.update-manager-core and ~/.update-manager I found meta-release and
meta-release-development files more than a year old.
"unfortunately" the problem went away when I did
export http_proxy=http://localhost:3128
and rerun update-manager -d
But the proxy is not REQUIRED for internet access on this machine!
Maybe this gives you some hints where you can look for problems.
