This is a great solution - thank you very much indeed.

I assume that there will be a fix for the upgrade as there must be a lot
of not very computer literate Ubuntu users wondering what on earth is
going on!

Not good for Ubuntu credibility.

hi everybody.

In addition to previously proposed commands
1)
# dpkg -P acroread
 or 
2)
# apt-get remove acroread

this issue can also be solved simply through synaptic for those who have some 
difficulties with command line:
open synaptic, search for acroread, and remove packages directly related to 
acroread and coming from medibuntu repository (version 8.10).
then install the acroread package from jaunty.
I solved my issue this way, which is easier to find all related packages, that 
may cause later conflicts with the new jaunty package.
