Unfortunately, yes. Thanks for asking. I have tried edgy on that machine and it's the same (well, actually worse): The icon disappears AND it doesn't play the DVDs.
I have to admit it's a fairly old computer (1999 or 2000) that I'm going to replace with a newer one soon.
