I can conform this bug on two equal Tosiba's (Satalite A110-225). Work around work's also.
I had also this problem when loging in a second time as a different user. I didn't check (yet) if this also solved that problem. I suspect it has something to do with the graphical interface. Maybe it's a combination of the 945GM Express chipset driver, de grapical consequentes of the manipulations by the splash screen (via the kernel?) and the way (or time involved) KDE needs to switch or close down. I planed to add some delay in a shutdown script to give KDE some extra time, but I didn't know where to do this . Maybe now it's a slilly idea anyway while this workaround is perfect for me. I did not only remove shlash but also quiet, so I can see where the system hangs if something is wrong (like I'm used to in Debian). -- Usplash sometimes hangs during shutdown/reboot and displays strange characters https://launchpad.net/bugs/72216 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
