Public bug reported:

Hi,
Installed an IBM x206m from a dapper CD, the install apparently worked but
the boot failed, on investigation the initrd was missing the drivers for the
SAS disc controller
it needed aic94xx/aic94xx.ko and the sas_class.ko adding (those are in the
dapper kernel modules). I think it had actually put the aic7xxx drivers in
there (but haven't got the machine in front of me to check)

Note: The initial symptoms are confusing and might get misreported as a
PCI resource issue; since at boot with an md raid setup, the last
messages you see are about PCI resource errors and appears to hang; but
only if you leave it for a minute or two does it eventually drop to a
shell where you can see that the drivers are missing. It really needs a
message to say that it is waiting.

P.S. What actually decides what modules to put in the install initrd? (I
had a look in initramfs-tools but couldn't see any logic for figuring it
out) Also is there a 'right' way to fix this, I attacked it with cpio
and added the modules and changed the conf/modules - but cpio just makes
me feel ill....
