I also own a T400 (2765TDG in my case). I haven't tested jaunty yet, but
in intrepid, consistently successful suspend/resume and hibernate/resume
required disabling one core for about 10 seconds right before sleep and
reenabling it right after resuming. I found the suggestion and the
script here:

Could this be the culprit again?
