So, I have installed Jaunty and installed the latest updates on the duplicate Studio 15. This time, the laptop has a wireless interface and it could connect to a wireless network. So, Tim was right and this was simply a hardware problem as opposed to a compatibility problem. For completeness purposes, I have attached the apport-collect information from the duplicate laptop but this bug could safely be closed.
