Hi, no they were not recognized after inserting CD, but after a reboot "sometimes" they would be recongnized , or after inserting a few times without a reboot. I have since stopped using Ubuntu (I had to have this functionality) as a result of the issue so I'm sorry I can't execute the debugging exercise :( I can tell you under WinXp SP2 the drive works flawlessly (same hardware). Also while testing under KnoppMyth, it worked fine as well (!!although my testing wasn't extensive, I don't remember having the issue!!).
If I return to Ubuntu later this year I will certainly let you know ! Thanks for getting back to me.
