same problem on Lenovo N 500 with GM45 Express (according to Xorg.0.log)

with Ubuntu 9.04 amd64 RC

I can provide lspci etc. if necessary

removing usplash solves the problem for me, so my guess it has to do
with the graphic system in some way

if this can't be fixed for Jaunty final, it should at least be mentioned
in the release notes! many user won't notice their notebook isn't
completly shut down and will see their accumulator completely empty the
next time they want to use the notebook
