Another alternative to the nvidia problem is to just cd into
/usr/src/nvidia-180.44, apply the patch there before installing the new
kernel, and then install the kernel. The driver will then be built
automatically by dkms.
Btw, I haven't managed to make the mic work yet. And KDE is still
complaining sound doesn't work (although it does).
