I forced a restart from the terminal line by "sudo restart now"

what followed was strange.

On first reboot I ended up at the terminal screen. Tried to alt-ctrl-f6
f7 etc but no x.

So I rebooted again but this time I ended up at a logon screen. Strange
I configured the bootup to autologin. In doing so I ended up in a full
working desktop.

So I restarted from the desktop again and ended up at the command
prompt.

So I have again restarted and ended up with a working desktop which I am
writing this post.

I am going to restart the system again just to make sure that I am in a
loop, so wait till my next post to see if I can repeat it.
