The problem is a huge performance hit when you have lots of windows open, especially if someone uses the show desktop button and the compiz show desktop plugin is not enabled. The compiz developers pretty have said they could make a patch for someone who wasn't happy about it, but they wouldn't include it in the normal compiz.
