Maybe it's a problem in distributing the packages onto the update mirror servers. I just installed Jaunty off a daily CD image within VirtualBox (in German) and this specific problem in definitely gone. There are a few untranslated panes here and there, but those have nothing to do with .desktop files. Too bad Jonathan Riddell just worked around the problem by manually uploading the .desktop files. That means by 9.10 we'll have the same problem all over again, because the frigging import script is still faulty...
