This bug seems like duplicate of bug 335297.
I had same issue as antex and pretty much the same hardware -- old MSI
K7N2-Delta motherboard with nForce2 chipset, Athlon XP 2000, and MSI graphics
card based on GeForce 5200. Basically the solution was:
apt-get remove powernowd
apt-get --reinstall install dbus
apt-get --reinstall install hal hal-info
