Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu Edgy (and dapper)

I am unable to view anything with the open source Nvidia drivers, I am
using an XFX 6600GT Nvidia graphics card.

The system seems to load fine, until it gets to the part where the login
screen should appear; a scrambled image appears instead. This happens on
all the graphics modes on Edgy but works OK in the "Safe graphics mode"
on Dapper.

The system seems to freeze completely because ctrl + alt + f2 doesn't
bring me to a command line either.

The proprietary Nvidia drivers work fine, I have to install Ubuntu with
the text-installer, boot into recovery mode, edit xorg.conf to use the
VESA driver, reboot and install the proprietary drivers to get a
display.

I can attach information if needed, I'm using the proprietary drivers at
the moment but can switch back for testing purposes if need be.
