I have the same problem. I need usbserial as module because I use usbserial for:
1.- Develop applications that use the serial port, in my laptop I use a Serial to USB converter and require usbserial. 2.- I have a Franklin CDU-680 EVDO modem and need it. As you can see, passing the vendor in the grub is not an option for me. My workarround.
