** Description changed: After distribution upgrade from 8.10 to 9.04, the disk mounter is no longer present in the Panel and can not be added. Inserting a SD-card into a DELL Mini-9 goes unrecognized, before with 8.10 I saw the SD card in the panel and could dismount it and remount it. Also a SD card icon appeared on the desktop, in Places, and in File Manager. Now nothing. This is a real show stopper. A few minutes ago, I did an update and upgrade, but it didn't show any effect for the auto-mount of the SD card. Disk mounting has disappeared from 9.04 GUI lspci shows SD Host Controller present. uname shows 2.6.28-11-generic #42 Ubuntu SMP dmesg shows: mmc0: error -84 whilst intialising SD card tried both 16GB SDHC and 2GB SD that worked yesterday with 8.10, both show mmc0: error -84 whilst intialising SD card Pressing ESC key at bootup and choosing 2.6.27-11-generic shows that 1- disk mounter works as before in 8.10, but 2- CPU frequency-scaling is broken, error msg appears saying this is not supported and the Atom processor stays at full-speed of 1.6 GHz and will not drop down to the usual 900 MHz. Therefore after upgrade from 8.10 to 9.04, using the 2.6.27-11-generic kernel is no longer an option. This has nasty consequences for tens of millions of Atom CPUs should one need to return to kernel 2.6.27-11-generic in case of a problem. The upgrade to 9.04 breaks the 2.6.27-11-generic kernel. + + The freq-scaling bug about breaking the old kernel by the upgrade to 9.04 has been separated and is now at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/365992 + since it has nothing to do with breaking support for SD cards.
