I was incorrect - it turned out to be my own version of lirc (which I
had compiled once and installed completely manually) which was working.

I can't even reproduce the success, much less in a .deb which can be
used to install lirc correctly.

Seriously, can this get some attention?  I'll be happy to do whatever I
need to so that IguanaIR can be included in the lirc package.
