I have upgraded Intrepid to Jaunty on Kubuntu and I still have the problem. The elegant workaround at

For the record, although I am running KDE 4.2.2, K3b is 1.0.5 on KDE 3.5.10. dpkg -l lame gives ii lame 3.98-0.0 LAME Ain't an MP3 Encoder Kindly solve this issue.
