Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi

I just upgraded from 8.10 to 9.04. Machine has an Nvidia-based Asus
motherboard. As soon as 9.04 started, the CPU fan went to maximum speed
(about 3500 rpm) and has stayed there ever since. The processor is not
hot. The fan stays at that speed even in BIOS setup.

Sorry, I am not familiar enough with acpi to know if there is some GUI
to control or report on the fan speeds.

** Affects: acpi (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
