Another effect: in nautilus filemanager's combobox to choose between modes (icon, list view, etc...) when clicked, the choices appear only in the 1024x768 portion of the screen. so if the window is in here, the choices appear at the right place, whereas if the window is placed outside, the choices appear misplaced.
