nm-applet needs the ability to specifically disconnect. Sometimes I would simply like to be able to disconnect from the current network and connect again later without disabling the entire interface. See knetworkmanager for a *near* fix. It has the option of "Deactivate connection" with submenu options "randomlynamedwirelessnetwork, Disable wireless, Switch to offline mode". It's not perfect, but it's better so I use it instead.
