I have a similar problems on a Thinkpad T61. On the login-screen finger scanning does not seem to work. And on the command line using sudo it does work but only if i press 'enter' after a valid finger scan. (which is very hard to know since you have no futher feedback)
Also acquiring the finger scanner device is dog slow, it takes 4 to 5 seconds to acquire the device while in Ubuntu 8.10 it was instant.
