i sadly have to tell you it is ... usb-imagewriter is used as a frontend
to dd which simply does a binary copy of an image to a target device ...
for ubuntu karmic (9.10) it is planned to integrate teh same
functionallity into usb-creator, probably evan can do something about
that feature request ... filing as whishlist for usb-creator
