Well, UXA *is* experimental, so dont be suprised if UXA freezes on you...
EXA + Virtual 2048 2048 _does_ seem to be the magic solution. Just
take a look at my Freeze-free xorg.conf:

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier      "Configured Monitor"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
        Identifier      "Default Screen"
        Monitor         "Configured Monitor"
        Device          "Configured Video Device"
        SubSection "Display"
                Virtual 2560 1024
        EndSubSection
EndSection

Section "Device"
        Identifier      "Configured Video Device"
EndSection

You see? No exotic settings, just a high Virtual...
