Martin, Unfortunately, I cannot easily do what you asked because of a recent update to Jaunty resulted in me loosing WiFi connectivity. So I am booting from a CD of Jaunty 64 bit.
I just ran apport-collect 367557 after I logged out, connected the hdmi external monitor and rebooted. The problem of the smaller resolution screen on the laptop appeared so I ran the apport-collect 367557 - and the list should have this result. That's the best I can do for the moment. If I have time today, I'll connect the laptop to the router via ethernet and do as you suggest with the change of the Device section of xorg.conf as I cannot do this on a Live CD boot. Hope this is helpful, David On Wed, Apr 29, 2009 at 11:57 AM, martin <[email protected]> wrote: > First try attaching the monitor before you power on the machine, boot > normally.
