Similar issue here. Laptop Packard Bell Easynote BG45 On Ubuntu 9.04, lowering the brightness works fine, but increasing the brightness does not work. I can't handle it from the gnome-power-manager, nor from the brightness-applet. The brightness control always comes back to a low value.
