Yes, I am aware of the workaround. However, I figure that for every person who knows enough to do that, or to come here to file a bug report, there are probably hundreds or thousands of ordinary users who are seeing the same bug and don't know what to do about it, so I think it is still important for the developers to be aware of the bug and to fix it.
The weird thing is that overnight last night, I finally received the upgrade notification on the laptop which had this problem.
