Hi Steve,

I run the command as you suggested, hope it helps.
I tried reverting the video driver to the intrepid version, as suggested in the
link below, but I got still got the same error while trying to enable the
desktop effects. If you need any more feedback from me, please let me know.
Also, if you could point me in the right direction of finding a workaround for
this it would be great, as everything else works fine.

Offtopic: I come from a Windows background, being a .NET developer, and
I tried recently Ubuntu for the first time. I'm really impressed by your
work. I already conviced 5 of my friends to use Ubuntu and they love it.
Keep up the good work.

Regards,
Candea Daniel

Can you please run 'apport-collect -p  xorg 368722' from a terminal?
This will collect information about your hardware and X configuration
and attach it to this bug report, which will better help developers
determine what's going on with your system.

One possibility is that your video chipset is an intel i965 based which
has had desktop effects be disabled by default due to it triggering the
X freezes as reported in bug 359392.

Bug description:
Hi,
I installed  Ubuntu 9.04 on a clean partition(formated from the install).
Everything went well, but when I tried to change the Visual Effects from None

enabled.
This is the second time it happened. On the release day of 9.04 I installed it
and got the same error while trying to enable desktop effects.

My machine is a Dell Inspiron 1525 notebook.
