That is not true. a) see package 'menu' which comes with su-to-root, calling it with -X makes it try to use gksu, kdesu, kde4su, ktsuss, sux and the built-in code, in that order with the exception that under a KDE session, kdesu and kde4su are prefered over gksu. b) Just deploy 2 desktop files. One using gksu and including NotShowIn=kde, and the other one using X-KDE-SubstituteUID=true and OnlyShowIn=kde (for example qt-language-selector does that AFAIK)
