I have the same problem with Ubuntu 9.04 (64bit) on my Dell Vostro 1310. But i can report some positive experiences:
When I start it with external power and my bluetooth mouse, it works sometimes by itself. If I join the GRUB menu by typing ESC directly after startup, it was starting always fine!
