Yes, I experience the same problem since intrepid on an Acer Aspire 5520. In intrepid I saw the "halt : unable to iterate ide devices .." error but it is not there on jaunty although the problem is still there.
You can check out this bug # 298402 as it may be the same problem. I still haven't found a solutions for this as it is kernel related and really weird issue.
