Thank you for your assistance Martin.

To answer your question - I am connecting my phone directly to my
computer.

I have filled a bug report with sony ericsson using their customer
support website - with the following text.

"I have a V640i. Attempted to use with my ubuntu operating system.
However there is a kernel / phone issue and I am receiving time outs.

Apr 30 16:29:29 laptop001 kernel: [ 1021.337920] end_request: I/O
error, dev sdc, sector 96
 Apr 30 16:29:29 laptop001 kernel: [ 1021.338008] Buffer I/O error on
device sdc, logical block 21
 [...]
 Apr 30 16:32:31 laptop001 kernel: [ 1203.216103] usb 2-2: USB
disconnect, address 2
 Apr 30 16:32:31 laptop001 kernel: [ 1203.384216] scsi 2:0:0:0:
rejecting I/O to dead device

I have filed a bug - bug 344150 in launchpad.net against this issue
with HAL log, Kernel log and lshal logs - [email protected]

Martin Pitt from Conical /Ubuntu is attempting to diagnose this issue,
and I am reporting this issue upstream for assistance.

Could you please provide me with a customer Helpdesk support number so
that this issue can be tracked within your system.

Thank you for your valued customer support.

I have used [email protected] as the reply address from sony
ericsson, so any replies from them will be included in this bug log.
