Ubuntu 9.04 out of the box has poor video performance on my Acer Aspire
5100.

the solution provided on the following page works for me:

specifically, I have pasted the following into my xorg.conf:

Section "Device"
 Identifier "ATI Radeon"
 Driver "ati"
 Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"
 Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy"
 Option "AccelDFS" "true"
 Option "EnablePageFlip" "true"
 Option "EnableDepthMoves" "true"
EndSection

I'm using Ubuntu 9.04
