This seems to be something requiring a kernel-side change, so assigning
a task for linux.
I'm leaving the -intel task open just to make it easier to find and keep
track of on the X side, but there is not actually work on the X side to
be done for this.
I don't know about the feasibility of a backport to jaunty, however
since it would help address some of the performance issues for -intel,
it would be nice if the kernel team could look into it.
