Public bug reported:

No sound in Armada Series laptops; Specifically Armada 1750.
Failure is repeatable. I tried the steps in the community support documents (
SoundTroubleshooting ) and I have run across a basic problem.
The kernel will not cross the bridge that the ess sound chip uses.
Lspci does not " see " the ess1869 chip, so no drivers are loaded.

it does cross the bridge that the Xircom uses ( PCMCIA Cardbus ) and I "
see " that card with no problems.

aplay: device_list: 222: no soundcards found... when I tried an es18xx driver
and a kernel rebuild.
I tried being sneaky too and load ALL ess drivers. No luck. I tried installing
sb drivers ( it emulates the sb ) no luck.
I have forced a modprobe sb with the proper values ( IRQ and address ) and I
get a " click " out of the speakers and just a prompt with no error messages,
yet trying to get any kind of mixer running just errors out.

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device

I do not know if this is an error that can be resolved easily.

The sound works in W2000pro on this dual boot system.

** Affects: Ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
