After installing Jaunty a few times I wanted to clarify this a bit.

The current behavior is that if a mismatched password is entered it
displays a graphic beside the password box(es). I'm actually not sure
whether this graphic first appears upon leaving the password box or
after attempting to go to the next step in the installer; I'm guessing
the latter.

I'd recommend that the installer compare the password boxes anytime the
a password box loses focus. This way the passwords are checked for
mismatch immediately and if they do match the graphic can be removed.
Not updating until hitting the 'Next' button seems less user-friendly.
Requiring the user to attempt to go to the next screen before checking
distances the problem (mismatched password) from the action (typing in
the password). It is maybe how you'd expect a web page to work not how
you'd expect a "real" program to work.
