I may be way off here, but have you tried reverting the Xorg intel driver in jaunty? You can try it on the live cd so that you dont have to reinstall twice if it doesnt work. I had the same problem and fixed it on the liveCD first to make sure that it would be usable before i went ahead and did a fresh install.
