Thanks for all of the help. Hopefully my bug will make it easier for others. To let you know, since 9.04 Beta 2 did not boot, I'm sending this from 8.10. Also I could not find the name apport-collect from your previous message. I have answered the questions below and attached lspci -vvv output.
I believe that I found a link to the reason why. It seems that the graphics deliver that gets loaded during the conversion does not work within 9.04 Beta 2. http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=237039 This also happened when I used the 9.04 beta 2 live CD (no proprietary Nivida driver). Therefore, my best guess is that the Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01) is causing the issue. My next task, next weekend. Is to try the full 9.04 live CD to see if the new kernal helps the situation.
