I have same problems. Direct installing from UBUNTU 9.04 CD is impossible, because in step 4 - the partition window do not fit in 1024x768 screen and buttons are not visible.
I had to run Live CD and from there run installing process - the window was continually too wide, but it was possible to move the window (Alt+mouse drag) to get rest of window visible. But by try to maximalise this window, it get "crazy".
