I am having a very similar problem after upgrading to Jaunty. My old HP Deskjet D1360 is no longer recognized. cups-driverd pegs out at 49-50% of my CPU, which presume is running full time on one core. No printers are found by the system, even dmesg doesn't have any reports of a printer being plugged in, but does when one is unplugged or turned off. Printer works fine when plugged into another computer (also running Jaunty, from the same installation iso), so I don't know what's going on.
