With both versions installed, Mayavi2 starts up with version python-wxgtk 2.6, instead of the available 2.8. Dependency check? Could it be related to the Python version? Ipython doesn't work well at all with Python 2.6, so maybe python-wxgtk 2.6 is not responding well either.
