Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Build Version:
Jaunty

Environment used for testing:
Any laptop and desktop running Ubuntu Jaunty

Summary:
When continuously changing the screen resolution and hit "Apply" button,
without closing the Display Preferences UI, user will be asked to set Virtual
Display. Once the user agree to set virtual display, virtual display
subsection will be added in xorg.conf, and some available resolutions will
disappear from UI. Usually virtual display is used for extended monitor, but
this happens on single display.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. From top panel, System --> Preferences --> Display Preferences
2. Change different resolution, click apply, and keep setting
3. Without closing the UI, select another resolution, click apply

Expected result:
Resolution should change to whatever user selects after clicking "Apply"
button, doesn't matter if the UI is closed or not.

Actual result:
A window pops up, asking user to set virtual display in order to apply the
setting. Once user hits yes and enters password, xorg.conf will have Virtual
display subsection added, and some supported resolutions will be gone.

Additional information:
I tried to create another non-admin user to verify if the xorg.conf can also be
modified if the same problem happens. The result is, doesn't matter if the
user is admin or not, as long as user password is provided, xorg.conf will be
modified.

** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
