** Description changed: This problem has caused me problems since before version 7. With clean install, resolution is only 640 x 480 and can only be fixed by manually editing xorg.conf. First I install Nvidia drivers. I have a Sony Multiscan 200es connected to an Nvidia 5200 card. Here's what I have to do inside xorg.conf: Section "Monitor", HorizSync 30-81, VertRefresh 60, EndSection Section "Screen", Subsection "Display", Depth 24, Modes "1024x768", EndSubSection, ... Section "Module", Load "glx", EndSection Section "Device", Driver "nvidia", Option "NoLogo" "True", EndSection Reboot This solves the problem but it's frustrating to have to do this with every distro.
