Sorry to bug you guys. I tried to install ubuntu 9.04 over 8.10. I'm
running 8.10 CD to contact you now--no apparent graphics errors from CD
boot. Booting the hard drive with new (yet flawed) 9.04 challenges X--
xorg.conf is incomplete and wrong. At first, I had a Radeon 9600XT (not
using fglrx). Garbage output. Replaced 9600XT with nVidia 6200OC--blank
screen. Maybe I should visit X.org--manually try to fix xorg.conf--but
where (please!)?
(Multi-head problems: I'll try the DVI (vs. the vga) terminal with an
adaptor and see if that helps--I'll get back with you....)
I think it's better to use bittorrent or straight download, validate the
iso, burn a cd/dvd, validate checksums, and start fresh rather than
install over in an attempt to try to save one's files and settings--this
is the second time I've had trouble with installing over a previous
version of Ubuntu or Kubuntu. I want to install 9.04 on my Windows PC,
also--at least, I'd have the cd and copies of it. Now, I have nothing--
and, not a good working version of Linux on another PC, and burning the
disks from windows is more difficult. Yet, commercial burning software
finally will burn ISOs correctly from Windows XP; before, one had to get
a routine from a guy on the web. Nonetheless, I prefer to download and
burn ISOs from Ubuntu--it's a natural at that....

Installed 9.04 over 8.10--X fails--gives garbage for (AGP bus) ATi or Blank for
NV. Xorg.conf can not init correctly.
