Public bug reported:
Dear friends,
yesterday I upgraded Kubuntu from 8.04 to 9.04 (by Synaptic).
The system was ok before - and is working well now - but it takes several
minutes to boot.
After starting correctly, it stops for 2 minutes on this message:
loading please wait...
kinit: name_to_dev_t(/dev/disk/by-uuid/... [a long string, I don't remember my
one: in a similar forum post, string is:
e9f121d4-a820-40d0-bc6c-cf0aa1555f24)=dev(8,5)]
kinit: trying to resume from
/dev/disk/by-uuid/e9f121d4-a820-40d0-bc6c-cf0aa1555f24
kinit: no resume image, doing normal boot
During this time, the HD button is not lighting and the system seems to
be in standby.
MY MAIN QUESTION:
Is all this dangerous for the system, or can I normally use Kubuntu 9.04 (with
some patience during the boot), waiting for a resolutive update of the kernel
(see below)?
MY SYSTEM:
Acer Aspire 5652WLMi
- Intel Core Duo processor 1.66 GHz (667 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache)
- 15.4" WXGA CrystalBrite TFT LCD
- 256 MB NVIDIA GeForce TM Go 7600
- 120 GB HDD 5400rpm (SATA)
- Slot-load DVD-Super Multi double layer (support DVD+R Double Layer/DVD+/-RW)
- 1 GB DDR2 (support dual-channel)
- 802.11 a/b/g wireless LAN
SOME COMMENTS:
1) On another laptop, I upgraded Ubuntu 8.04 to 9.04 (not Kubuntu) and I did
not found any problem.
2) By reading several forum, I have the impression this is a common problem.
Moreover, I read of several people who also tried to install Kubuntu 9.04
directly by the .iso, without avoiding the trouble. I also read of someone who
booted Kubuntu 9.04 with previous kernel (2.6.27-11-generic), and the problem
disappeared.
3) When doing upgrade, the system asked me to accept a partial upgrade. What
does it mean? Unfortunately, I don't remember the names of the 2 files involved.
Best regards,
Erica Elisabetta Bisesi
