OK, its broken again... sorry for the noise. It seems that it has something to do with my display setup. If I have an external (22") monitor attached and use it side by side with the laptop display it seems to work. If I start the notebook without the 22" it is broken again, even on Jaunty.
I've attached another screen shot. Note the black bar on the top. Thats because of my dual display setup.
