Interesting problem. I can confirm that I see the "disorder codes" (what
should be Chinese characters, I assume, are interpreted as a different
encoding and displayed as "garbage" characters) in evince as well.

However, when I install the "acroread" package, this same PDF is still
unreadable with the Adobe reader. So it is not clear if this problem is
specific to "evince" (or other PDF readers), or if the .pdf file has not
been created properly.

Does this same .pdf file work in a different PDF viewer? If so, which
one? The "pdfinfo" command-line utility also displays garbage
characters.
